April 6, 2000 at Connecticut College, New London, Connecticut. Jamie Rankin is a Senior Lecturer in German at Princeton University. He holds a PhD in Germanic Languages and Literatures from Harvard University. He has published both in the area of second language acquisition and literature, and is the author of "Wie geht's? interaktiv", a CD-ROM program for beginning German to provide customized video, audio, image, and text for language tasks integrated with a first-year program.

Author, "A la rencontre de Phillipe" and "Dans un quartier de Paris"


March 29, 2000 at Wesleyan University, Middletown, Connecticut. Gilberte Furstenberg, Senior Lecturer in French at MIT, is author of the award-winning propgram "A la rencontre de Philip". At Wesleyan, she will present her newly released CD-ROM program,"Dans un Quartier de Paris", which allows students to explore a French cultural space and "Cultura", a Web-based program designed to develop cross-cultural comprehension. She will focus on the novel ways in which multimedia technology helps students discover and explore diverse cultural notions. She will show videotapes of students in class and highlight the role of the teacher.



Technology in the Academic Mission: A Symposium

CTW Mellon Conference
Technology and Language Learning in New England and New York: A Look into the Future


May 24-26, 1999 at Wesleyan University, Middletown, Connecticut. This conference has been organized as a forum to explore the present and future uses of technology to enhance language instruction in the New England liberal arts colleges involved with Project 2001. Saturday, February 13th, 1999 in the Rittenberg lounge at Trinity College. The colloquium started with presentations by Robert Blake from the University of California at Davis, Dorothy James from Hunter College and Randall Jones from Brigham Young University. Presentations were followed by a Panel discussion that included Kenneth Lloyd-Jones, Timothy Vance, Krishna Winston and Nina Garrett as the moderator. The program is available online.
