// CALICO '99 in Oxford, OH |
|
In early June this summer, the CTW Mellon Project Staff attended
the annual CALICO (The Computer Assisted Language Instruction
Consortium) symposium (see www.calico.org).
This year's gathering, at Miami
University in Oxford, OH reflected the theme of " Advancing
Language Learning Technologies into the New Millennium." Ana
Pérez-Girones co-presented a paper with Claire
Bradin of Michigan entitled "How
Do We Know If It Worked? Evaluating a CALL Initiative."
Steven Smolnik co-presented "Look
Both Ways Before Crossing: Surviving the Analog to Digital
Transition" with Roger Sánchez-Berroa, Wesleyan's
Language Lab Director. For another good primer on "Planning for the
Language Lab of the Future", take a look at a presentation by
Samantha Earp, from the University of North Carolina,
Charlotte, and Rachel Saury, from the University of Virginia,
Charlottesville: http://www.people.Virginia.EDU/~res4n/presentations/calico/ppframe.htm
