IALL '99 - Beyond the Classroom, Beyond the Lab; Where do you want to be tomorrow?

The biannual conference of the International Association for Language Learning Technology (IALL) (http://www.iall.net) took place at the University of Maryland at College Park. Check out their Language Center at: http://www.inform.umd.edu/EdRes/Colleges/ARHU/Depts/langctr/
This year's theme was "Lab, Classroom, & Beyond: Evolving Technology in Language Education." Steven Smolnik presented "Look Both Ways Before Crossing: Steering Your Analog to Digital Transition" as a case study of how changing technologies allow for and precipitate new considerations in facilities design and support staffing. A presentation offered by Claire Barlett of Rice University, "Web Browsing/Editing, E-mail, and Word Processor for Non Roman Characters in Windows" (http://polyglot.rice.edu/bartlett/IALL99.html) was quite informative about issues that we so frequently encounter when connecting to cyberspace and the solutions that we need.
