Report on Website for a Course in Spoken French
Project Report By: Françoise Weaver, French, Trinity College
BACKGROUND:
After I taught french Conversation 281 in the Fall 1998 using this
computer manual I realized that it needed extra work: the executive
committee agreed to renew my grant for a small project I made the following changes:
- I wrote a syllabus and a list of assignments: this was done at the
suggestion of my students and of colleagues in other universities who
wanted more precise guidelines to use this book for their classes.
- A chapter on Cinema with extensive vocab and links to Internet
sites: This might be useful for students this Spring taking a film and
literature course.
- A chapter called: "Les mots du cyber": providing students with
french computer terminology
- A "Dossier Images": providing students with pictures they can
describe for oral presentations: (more images will be forthcoming
pending copyright permission)
- A chapter : Exploits et bonnes nouvelles. I intend to use student's
material as they explore the Web and do their presentations.
I did also a complete overhaul of the previous chapters: I changed all
the fonts and the navigation indicators to better conform to the internet conventions.
I established additionnal links particurlarly to audio and video news.
I added relevant vocabulary to make the text more interesting and
accessible.
I had to declare the project finished although due to the nature of this
media, this will be an ongoing endeavour.
I presented this at Wesleyan in May.
I intend to use it in the Fall 1999.
