Basak Kus

Basak Kus obtained her PhD in Sociology from the University of California, Berkeley. Prior to joining Wesleyan in 2012, she held postdoctoral appointments at Princeton’s Niehaus Center for Globalization and Governance, and Yale’s MacMillan Center for International Studies. Between 2010 and 2012 she lived in Ireland, and taught political economy, public policy, and research methods at the University College in Dublin.

Her academic interests include:

  • history of political economic thought
  • the rise of neoliberalism and its policy implications in a comparative perspective
  • the rise of credit-reliant consumption and its impact on inequality
  • financialization and inequality
  • redistributive politics
  • regulation of economic activity
  • economic crises and policy reform
