Pawan Kumar Sharma

Pawan Sharma is a Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence and Visiting Professor from India. He has also been on a Fulbright-Nehru Educational Administrators cohort to the US in 2019. His research interests include chemical biology of nucleic acids, selective inhibitors of carbonic anhydrase, material science, and green chemistry. He has mentored 14 PhDs, obtained 8 patents, and has published 146 research papers in collaboration with 31 research groups in 13 countries; Google Scholar ratings: h-index: 37; i10-index: 92. He has delivered over 175 invited lectures. He is on the Editorial Board of Expert Opinion on Therapeutic Patents and Honorary Senior Advisor of Current Indian Science.

Pawan Sharma started his career, after earning a Ph.D. degree, with industry working on the development of cost-effective methodologies for the third-generation antibiotics. After working for about two years, he moved to the job of his choice as Assistant Professor at Kurukshetra University, India in 1996 where he is working as a Professor of Chemistry besides also being a Professor at the Central University of Haryana. He has also served as Dean, Research & Development and Dean, Students’ Welfare at Kurukshetra University. He worked as a Postdoctoral fellow for two years at the Iowa University, Iowa City and as Research Associate Professor at the University of Southern Denmark for more than two years. His stint at Denmark initiated a long collaboration as he has been invited as a visiting researcher to University of Southern Denmark every summer for 10 years. Notably, he found a place on the XXI Indian Scientific Expedition to Antarctica when he spent summer months at the coldest continent. He has been an awardee of Srinivasa Ramanujan Birth Centenary Award Gold Medal (2018-2019) by the Indian Science Congress Association and Bronze Medal (2018) by Chemical Research Society of India besides being recipient of national award by Indian Chemical Society (2015). He has travelled to many countries spanning over six continents including Switzerland, Denmark, Japan, Canada, Norway, Australia, Germany, France, Antarctica, Sweden, South Africa, Poland, Finland, Netherlands etc.
