Ulrich E Bach’s research focuses on late 19th and early 20th century literary, visual, and exile studies. His academic work has appeared in publications such as German Quarterly, Utopian Studies, and "Film & History. His monograph, Tropics of Vienna: Colonial Utopias of the Habsburg Empire, was published by Berghahn Books in 2016.
He holds a Master’s degree in history from University of London, and received a PhD in German Studies from UCLA in 2004. Before coming to Wesleyan University, he was a Mellon Post-doc fellow at Stanford University for three years, and an Associate Professor of German at Texas State University.
