Yamil Ricardo Velez

Yamil Velez specializes in the topic of public opinion toward immigration in the United States. In his dissertation, he examines how growing immigrant populations across the United States are influencing residential mobility patterns and political behavior among native-born residents. Yamil has also conducted research on citizens’ perceptions of groups in their local communities, the impact of natural disasters on voting behavior, and how predispositions and place interact to shape immigration attitudes. He holds a BA in Political Science and Psychology from Florida State University, and a PhD from Stony Brook University.
