The Wesleyan Biology
Department is seeking to fill a tenure-track position in cell biology, beginning
July 1, 2010. We seek to complement existing areas of strength in development,
neuroscience, or evolution. The departmental Ph. D. and multidisciplinary
programs provide a stimulating research environment supported by core facilities
that include meta-confocal, scanning and transmission electron microscopes, mass
spectrometer and microarray facility, and access to a super computer. Candidates
should have postdoctoral experience and plan to launch an independent research
program funded by extramural grants. Teaching will be at undergraduate and
graduate levels in the area of cell biology.

ENGLISH AND FEMINIST, GENDER, AND SEXUALITY STUDIES
The Department of English at Wesleyan
University seeks a scholar-teacher of Modern Dramatic Literature, with a
specialization in feminist, gender or sexuality studies, for a tenure-track
appointment at the assistant professor level, beginning July 1, 2010. Expertise
in performance studies welcome. Candidates for this position should be actively
engaged in scholarly research and writing and prepared to teach four courses per
year (two per semester) to undergraduates. Successful applicants will be

HISTORY
AND COLLEGE OF SOCIAL STUDIES
Wesleyan University’s
History Department invites applications for a
tenure-track assistant
professor of modern Russian history to begin July 1, 2010. The successful
candidate will be expected to participate fully in all aspects of the life of
the College of Social Studies, a multidisciplinary program in history,
economics, government, and philosophy. In addition to offering seminars in her
or his specialty, the successful candidate must be prepared to teach Russian
history from the Kievan period to the present (including Russia’s engagement
with the wider world), a survey course on modern European history from 1815 on,
and, at regular intervals, a group tutorial on Europe since 1789 (CSS 240) in
the College of Social Studies. Candidates are expected to have the Ph.D. in

an Assistant Professor. Joint Appointment in Department of Philosophy and the
College of Letters. Area of specialization: Nineteenth Century European
Philosophy (including Kant), with a preference for German Philosophy. Area of
competence: Philosophy of Literature, Aesthetics, or the Philosophy of History.
The College of Letters is an interdisciplinary department in predominantly
European literature, history, and philosophy. Team teaching of material from all
three disciplines, over the period from antiquity to the present, is required.
Broad literary and historical interests are thus essential. Ph.D. in

PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Wesleyan University
is seeking applicants for the position of Head Coach of Football.
Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to, organizing and
administering all aspects of the football program including contest preparation,
team practice planning, arranging for travel, recruiting of qualified
student-athletes from diverse backgrounds, maintaining regular and effective
communication with the office of admissions, supervising full-time and part-time
assistant coaches, providing leadership and mentoring to team members, active
communication with football alumni, providing the sports information director
with information for publication and the teaching of for credit physical
education courses. A physical education department administrative duty may be
assigned. Also, the successful candidate must adhere to all University, NESCAC
and NCAA Division III regulations. Bachelor’s degree is required and an advanced
degree is preferred. Candidates should have significant experience in the
coaching of college football. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills are
essential. The ability to mentor students in a very challenging academic
environment is an important qualification, as well as, the ability to recruit
and coach highly competitive football players. Compensation is commensurate with
experience and qualifications. This is a multi-year, adjunct faculty

The Physics Department at Wesleyan

scholars specializing in Gender and Islam. The successful candidate will hold a
joint appointment in the Religion Department and in the Feminist, Gender, and
Sexuality Studies Program. Applicants should have expertise in one or more of
the following: Islamic tradition and practice; Islamic law, rights, and gender;
theories of gender and Muslim identity; social movements among Muslims. Those
pursuing sexuality studies and/or comparative analysis from a transnational
perspective will be favorably considered. We seek a scholar with geographic
specialization in Africa, Southeast Asia, Central Asia, or, especially, the
Middle East. The candidate must have a Ph.D. in Religion, Women’s Studies,
Middle Eastern Studies or a related field by the time of appointment, or be very
