Visiting Positions
BIOLOGY/MOLECULAR BIOLOGY AND BIOCHEMISTRY DEPARTMENTS
A
Visiting Assistant Professor is sought for the 2009-2010 academic year. The
initial appointment will be for two years with the possibility of renewal for a
further two years. The Visitor will teach and coordinate teaching assistants for
the undergraduate laboratory component of Introductory Biology in the fall and
spring semesters. The fall semester course emphasizes cell biology and molecular
genetics, while the spring semester course focuses on developmental biology,
physiology, ecology, and evolution.
The Visiting Professor will be
assisted by our lab coordinator, who has primary responsibility for ordering
supplies, preparing materials, and providing technical assistance for the
introductory biology lab courses. Individual laboratory sections are led by
graduate teaching assistants and advanced undergraduates. The Visitor will have
primary responsibility in supervising and training the graduate teaching
assistants. The visitor will provide a 30-minute introductory lecture at each of
four meeting times of the weekly laboratory sections.
The Visiting Professor will also
teach a section of the Introductory Biology lecture course in the fall (32
students), and a course in the area of his or her expertise in the spring.
Applicants must possess a Ph.D. degree and be broadly trained in the biological
sciences; prior teaching experience is preferred and commitment to teaching
excellence is essential. Interested applicants should submit their curriculum
vitae and a teaching statement, and have three letters of reference via e-mail
to our administrative assistant, Ms. Deborah Alexson (dalexson@wesleyan.edu), or
by mail to Search Committee, Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry,
Wesleyan University, Middletown, CT 06459-0175. Applications must be received by
June 15.
Wesleyan is an equal opportunity and affirmative
action employer and welcomes applications from women and members of historically
under-represented minority groups.
