Areas of Study

Wesleyan offers 44 majors in 38 different departments and programs. The point of your major at Wesleyan is to give you exposure to what scholars and researchers do in a particular academic discipline. By the time you graduate, you will understand the contemporary state of that field and the questions and challenges that confront its contemporary thinkers.

Following is a list of Wesleyan majors, linked to the appropriate departmental website. In addition, the University offers certificate programs in environmental studies, international relations, and Jewish and Israeli studies. Wesleyan students can design their own major, called a "university major," if a committee of three faculty members agree to supervise the program.

Certificate Programs

Certificate programs provide curricular options that complement current departmental and interdisciplinary majors.  They are designed to bring coherence to programs of study that include courses from many departments and programs. For each program, model curricula are provided to guide students in their choice of courses.  Wesleyan currently has four certificate programs in place.

Certificate in Environmental Studies

Certificate in Informatics and Modeling
Certificate in International Relations
Certificate in Jewish and Israel Studies
