Wesleyan’s College of Education Studies is designed for those who want to critically engage with current issues in education and help shape the future of this evolving, transformative field. Students can choose to pursue a linked major or a minor. Majors develop an interdisciplinary understanding of educational institutions, practices, policies, and philosophies in the United States and abroad, from early childhood to the university level.

The College of Education Studies offers students the opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience through research-practice partnerships with local school districts and other organizations. Students may choose to focus their studies within a specific area or may pursue a broad range of interests.

What You’ll Study

  • The education studies linked major is awarded to students who complete a minimum of 10 credits, including a half-credit gateway course (waived for the Class of 2021), one foundations course, three breadth courses, three electives, one broader contexts course, one half-credit pedagogy course, and one senior seminar. In addition, majors must complete a half-credit practicum experience with 20 student contact hours.
  • Because education studies is a linked major, students must complete another major in addition to education studies.
  • The education studies minor requires five courses from an approved curriculum, including one half-credit gateway course (waived for the Class of 2021), one foundations course, three breadth courses, and one half-credit pedagogy course. In addition, minors must complete a half-credit practicum experience with 20 student contact hours.
  • The minor does not provide the course credentials for the Connecticut State Initial Educator Certification required for teaching positions in public schools.
