03:00 pmWILD Wes WILD Wes, Working for Intelligent Landscape Design at Wesleyan, was created in fall 2010. The vision of the group is to re-define the way our campus can look and to move beyond the notion of lawns as the ideal landscape. In spring 2011, the university administration granted the WestCo courtyard to WILD Wes as a test site for sustainable landscape design. For this event, the group talks about the organization, discusses details of the finalized design concept and implementation plan at the WestCo courtyard, and walks visitors through the site, showcasing all the early plantings and practical sustainability techniques that have already been implemented.

10:00 pmGerman HausGerman Haus offers a range of programs at Wesleyan to provide a venue for cross-cultural exchange, including German coffee hour and film screenings. In the film festival "(Re)imagining Post-Industrial Urbanity: Films of the Ruhr Area, Germany," German Haus will show three films ("Bang Boom Bang," "Losers and Winners," and "Solino") from a large post-industrial area in western Germany and will provide an introductory session placing the films in the context of transformation through art and image-making in the region. The session will be hosted by Sina Nitzsche, visiting assistant professor of German at Oglethorpe University, and Kate Thorpe, Teagle Writing Fellow at Wesleyan and a Fulbright Scholar in Germany (2010-11).
