SENIOR ESSAY:
|
I am writing a senior essay through the Sociology department on the effects of tutoring, mentoring
and extracurricular activities on student development. |
ACTIVITIES:
|
For the past couple of years, I have been a member of
the male student of color group, Invisible Men, as well as the Black student
organization, Ujamaa. I tutor and mentor students at Woodrow Wilson middle school. I also cater for Bon Appétit and
participate in intramural basketball.
|
OUTSIDE WESLEYAN:
|
The summer after freshman year I interned in the
OB/GYN office at Montefiore Medical Center in New York. I am currently
developing an educational nonprofit, Candid which plans to address
the cyclical abandonment of education in underprivileged communities by highlighting
the connection between education and an individual’s passions/interests. I
also am an affiliate of the New York-based ReeLife Music Group and assist
with marketing and networking for the organization. |
FAVORITE WESLEYAN EXPERIENCE:
|
My favorite experience didn’t actually take
place on campus but was a direct result of the opportunities available at Wes.
I spent a semester abroad in Madrid, Spain my junior year. Along with improving
my Spanish skills, I was able to appreciate a
culture that was not my own. I was able see life activities done differently,
which helped to open my mind and compelled me to question societal norms of
American culture and Spanish culture. |
AFTER WESLEYAN:
|
Wesleyan encourages and supports social entrepreneurship
and engagement, so I hope to capitalize on the skills I’ve gained to develop
programs that focus on addressing educational inequities. I’m also interested
in writing or marketing for a music company or pursuing entertainment law.
