EMILIE SINKLER

HOMETOWN:
Des Plaines, IL
HIGH SCHOOL:
Maine West High School
MAJOR:
Physics and Earth and Environmental Science
THESIS:

This summer I will be doing research through the Keck Geology Consortium with a Wesleyan professor studying the potential effects of water-level changes on island ecosystems. I plan to turn this research into a thesis.

FAVORITE
CLASS:
My favorite class at Wesleyan so far has been “Modeling the Earth and Environment” with Phil Resor. It has been really interesting and satisfying to be able to use my knowledge of physics and programming to model real world dynamics.
CAMPUS
ACTIVITIES:
I am a member of the Wesleyan Ski Team and a rower on the Women’s Varsity Crew. I also volunteer at MacDonough Elementary School through the WesReads/WesMath program, tutoring students in preparation for their state exams. In my free time, I enjoy going on Outing Club trips and exploring the greater Middletown area.
OUTSIDE
WESLEYAN:
The past two summers I have traveled and worked on a remote guest ranch in Wyoming. Here, I was able to add to my knowledge of environmental science through discussions with co-workers and through personal experiences hiking and horseback riding.
FAVORITE WESLEYAN EXPERIENCE:
One of my fondest memories of Wesleyan so far is the 2012 Head of the Charles in Boston where the women’s crew placed 8th. This was especially exciting because it is the best that the program has done since the Collegiate 8 race was created.
AFTER
WESLEYAN:

I plan to attend graduate school to study geology or geophysics.
