Wesleyan is committed to providing a comprehensive athletics program for its student
body, from top-flight intercollegiate programs to intramural offerings geared
toward fun and fitness. A Division III
member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, Wesleyan competes in the
New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC), widely regarded as one
of the most competitive Division III conferences in the nation. Along with Amherst and Williams colleges, Wesleyan forms the Little
Three, the oldest continuous athletic rivalry in the country. Contests with these historic rivals are intense, and a Little Three
championship is the jewel in the crown of any successful season.
Wesleyan’s
athletic department offers classes in ice skating, squash, strength training and
rock climbing to mention just a few, all in a state-of-the-art facility
featuring the Bacon Fieldhouse (for pick-up hoops, indoor track, and general
recreation), the Wesleyan Arena (the skating facility) and the Wesleyan
Natatorium (a fifty-meter pool with three springboards), as well as a fitness
center, multi-purpose room, and athletic training facilities.
The
member institutions of the NESCAC are committed first and foremost to academic
excellence and believe that athletic excellence supports the educational mission
of the schools.
