academic maturity and independence, standardized test scores, extracurricular
activities and general contributions to school and community.
- Regular Decision (Application Deadline:
January 1st)
As soon as you have decided to apply, complete the
Pre-Application here
on the web and either send in the $55 application fee or pay your fee by
credit card. (The Pre-Application is Wesleyan's "Supplement" to the Common Application). You may take more time to complete the Common Application,
submitting it no later than January 1. Admission decision letters will be
mailed by April 1. Note: Applicants to the Freeman Asian Scholars
Program visit the
Freeman Asian Scholar
Program webpage for application instructions.
- Early Decision
The Early Decision Program is designed for those students who, after
careful consideration, have decided that Wesleyan is their first choice.
Students applying under Early Decision certify that
Wesleyan is their first choice and agree to accept Wesleyan's offer of
admission if extended. Students also agree to withdraw applications submitted
to other colleges and not to initiate any new applications.
Wesleyan offers two options under the Early Decision Program:
- Option I (Application Deadline:
November 15th)
Option I is designed for students who have decided early in the fall that
Wesleyan is their first choice. The application deadline is November 15 with
notification by December 15.
- Option II (Application
Deadline: January 1st)
Option II recognizes that some students arrive at a final college choice
later than others. It also accommodates students who wish to have their
senior year first semester grades included in their application. The
application deadline is January 1 with notification by February 15.
Types of Applications
Students may apply to Wesleyan University using one of the following types of
applications:
- The Common Application which can be filed electronically or downloaded
from their website.
- The paper Common Application which can be obtained from your high school.
- Applications from QuestBridge.
Teacher Recommendations
Two academic teacher evaluations are required. You are encouraged
to submit one from a humanities or social sciences teacher and one from a
math or science teacher. (Please make sure your name and WesID are
noted on both references.) Wesleyan encourages applicants to
request that both school forms and teacher evaluations be filed
electronically via the Common Application website.
Supplemental Materials
Information regarding submission of optional supplemental materials to
the application may be found
here.
Application Statistics
Approximately 8,250 candidates submitted applications for the Class of 2012.
Of these, 27% were offered admission.
Standardized Tests
Wesleyan requires the new SAT I and two SAT II tests (or old SAT I and three
SAT II tests; Writing Test required) or the ACT.
The Test of English as a Foreign language (TOEFL) or the International English
Language Testing System (IELTS) is required for non-native
speakers of English. All tests should be taken so that scores will be received
by the Office of Admission by the application deadline. (We recommend that Early
Decision I candidates register for the October and/or November test dates.)
Financial Aid
For details on Financial Aid at Wesleyan, click
here. Wesleyan follows a
need-blind admission policy, reviewing each
application for admission without regard to a student's financial circumstances.
For this reason, no student should fail to apply because the cost of a Wesleyan
education appears to be beyond the means of the student and his or her family.
After You Have Applied
All applicants to Wesleyan are instructed to monitor the receipt of their
application materials by using our web-based
WesCheck page. Using your last
name and assigned WesID number, you can view application materials received as
well as outstanding items. It is important to use
WesCheck regularly (after September
15) to be sure your application is complete.
Deferred Enrollment
Deferred enrollment requests must be submitted in
writing and approved by June 1st.
Upon approval, Wesleyan University will grant deferred
admission for up to one year. Typically, 20 to 25 students are granted
deferred matriculation in each class, as long as they meet the necessary
requirements.
In order to obtain approval, applicants must commit to
enroll at Wesleyan and not make any further admission applications to other
institutions or enroll full time in any other institution of higher
education. Interested students must also submit their Admitted Student YES
Response Form and $250 admission deposit by May 1st.
Additionally, all students who are granted deferred matriculation are
required to send an essay to the attention of the Dean of Admission by March
1st reconfirming their commitment to enroll at Wesleyan and
update the admission committee on their progress in meeting their respective
goals for the year.
Once the student’s request for deferment is received
and, if approved, a formal letter acknowledging their deferred status will
be sent.
