WHY I CHOSE WES:
|
In a word: community. When I visited campus as a high school senior, I found an environment of passionate, engaged, and intellectual students who would contribute to biology class discussions with knowledge from the fields of sociology, government, art history, and chemistry. That openness of thought, willingness to share, and support of a peer's interests in and out of the classroom is something that excited me as a prospective student and continues to excite me today.

ACADEMIC INTERESTS:
|
I have always been really interested in American
history, culture, and society, and Wesleyan’s History and American Studies
departments provide an ideal structure for me to study how they all intersect.
I believe an understanding of where we as a nation have come from, how we view
ourselves, and how that has shaped our worldview, values, and culture is
crucial to understanding who we are now and who we should be going forwards.

FAVORITE CLASS:
|
Last semester, I took a research seminar in the
History Department on Exploring Middletown's History with Prof. Ron
Schatz. The class was unlike any I've ever taken before: it consisted of six
students and the professor, so our weekly seminars were intimate and
personalized. The course culminated in each of us producing our own significant
work based on original historical research. Plus, it was a great way to learn
all about Middletown!

WHY CHOSE TO BE A TOUR GUIDE:
|
I absolutely adore
Wesleyan! The people and the community are so many superlative things:
open-minded, intellect, engaging, fun, vibrant, supportive, the list goes on.
As a tour guide, I get the opportunity to share everything that makes Wesleyan
awesome and exciting with others, and hopefully they'll adore Wes too!

I went to a day care named after NFL running back, Calvin Hill. When he visited, I asked him why his mother named him after a preschool.
