HIGH SCHOOL:
Buckingham Browne & Nichols
MAJOR:

WHY I CHOSE WES:

I chose Wesleyan because I wanted to become more well-rounded. This school has all of the tools that a young person could ask for. Moreover, I found that these resources were more geared towards the individual than the other institutions I looked at. Other liberal arts colleges of a similar profile don’t encourage independence the way that Wes does. I applied ED1 because I thought that I would discover new passions while simultaneously amplifying my existing ones (and I have!).

ACADEMIC
INTERESTS:

My academic interests are quite varied, and I feel fortunate to be at a school that allows me to pursue all of them at once. Although I am a psychology major, I am also interested in American Sign Language (I am a teaching assistant in ASL 1 this semester!). I believe that a good liberal arts education helps you find connections between these seemingly disparate subjects.

FAVORITE CLASS:

My favorite class at Wesleyan has to be American Sign Language. I came into it with a lot of false assumptions about sign language and Deaf culture. After only two years, I am nearly fluent and have lived in Sign Language House, one of the 11 program houses on campus. Last semester, I got together with a housemate to make an ASL video of Drake’s “Headlines” that currently has over 6,000 views (not that I’m counting or anything…).

CAMPUS
ACTIVITIES:

Head Start Volunteer
Cheese Co-op Committee
Former Varsity Wrestler
Intramural Dodge ball

WHY I CHOSE TO BE A TOUR GUIDE:

It is, quite simply, the best job on campus; I get to pitch Wes to everyone I meet while enjoying our beautiful campus and getting some exercise at the same time. When I was looking at colleges, most of my tours just sort of blended together. It is my goal as a tour guide to help Wesleyan stand out by showing prospective students my personal connection to the school.
