WHY I CHOSE WES:
|
Prior to applying, I had never visited Wesleyan. Everything seemed perfect to me though - liberal arts, small school, interesting majors, etc. I was not wrong. Quickly, I discovered that the student body desires to increase their understanding of disparities concerning disabilities, sexual orientation, gender, and race. It is for this reason that I call Wesleyan "the social justice bubble," since we focus on fostering the individual's sense of community by celebrating differences. |
ACADEMIC INTERESTS:
|
Seemingly not your typical liberal arts student, I am
that girl with a ten-year plan of exactly what she wants to do and how she’s
going to do it. That is definitely the planner in me! Thus, coming to Wes, I
took all the classes that would fulfill my passions and aims. Honestly, I loved
all my classes, but I now know that I am a guaranteed social science/humanities
student, NOT a mathematician. In any case, I thoroughly enjoy using theoretical
framework to evaluate academia, for example employing my high school study of
anthropology to analyze two sets of play couplets written by August Wilson.
Interdisciplinary education all the way!

FAVORITE CLASS:
|
Straying away
from the more academic side of my education, my favorite class has to be Ebony Singers: Gospel Music without a
doubt! Previously I had never been lucky enough to sing in a large choir and,
just as I hoped, the feeling was spectacular. The power of this 100-person
choir was phenomenal!

WHY I CHOSE TO BE A TOUR GUIDE:
|
One of the best things about Wes is the multi-faceted
diversity of students. As a British-Nigerian international student, I wanted to be a physical representation of the cultural
mix found amongst students at Wesleyan. I feel as though this gives me a unique perspective of Wes, so that is
what I want to offer to pre-frosh.
