Edwidge Danticat, the 2012 Millett Writing Fellow in the English Department, will give a reading followed by a book signing and reception. The event is co-sponsored by African American Studies, Feminist, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Office of Diversity and Strategic Partnerships, Office of Academic Affairs and Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship.

PEARL PRIMUS: Life, Work and Legacy.

Pearl Primus, pioneer in dance, education, anthropology and African studies defied entrenched ideas about both race and art.  In this lecture, Peggy and Murray Schwartz, authors of The Dance Claimed Me: A Biography of Pearl Primus, present her life, work and legacy together with 65 images and original video footage. Co-sponsored by the Center for African American Studies. 

 

Wednesday, February 29th, 5:00pm, CAAS Vanguard Lounge

Dael Orlandersmith,  Pulitzer Prize nominated playwright, poet, actor, and teacher Dael Orlandersmith will read from her latest work Black and Blue Boys/Broken Men and conduct an “Open Mic” workshop and talk back for students. A reception will follow the reading.
