A Letter from the APAAC Chair
by Eileen Cheigh ’91, National Chair, Asian Pacific American Alumni Council (APAAC)
I am delighted to share with you the success of this past February’s APAAC Lunar New Year Celebrations. There were six celebrations organized across the country. Several of last year’s volunteers offered to help coordinate the events again this year, and there were also a few new volunteers.
Here is a list of the dates, locations, and organizers:
| Date | Location | Organizer |
|---|---|---|
| February 2 | New York | Peter Park ’93 and Eileen Cheigh ’91 |
| February 2 | San Francisco | Daphne Kwok ’84 |
| February 5 | Boston | Dave Ly ’01 |
| February 12 | Baltimore | Adam Borden ’98 |
| February 12 | Minneapolis | Don Kim ’01 |
| February 20 | Washington, D.C. | Dina Li ’84 |
Attendance ranged from seven people at D.C.'s very intimate Tibetan Losar Celebration to more than 40 people at New York’s happy hour event. Boston experienced a 100 pereent increase in attendance over last year, forcing Dave Ly ’01 to seat a second table for the Dim Sum brunch. More than 15 alumni from Wesleyan, Williams, and Amherst were slated to attend the Little Three Celebration that Adam Borden ’98 organized in Baltimore. Unfortunately ,that event had to be cancelled as a result of inclement weather.
I hope next year’s Lunar Celebrations will be executed without a hitch and that you are all able to attend. I welcome your support, ideas, and feedback.
