After three years as a dedicated member of the University Relations staff,
Dwayne D. Busby ’95 has resigned from Wesleyan to return with his wife, Gabrielle, to Houston, Texas, to accept a position at the law firm of Baker & Botts and to begin law school in Fall 2003. Dwayne began his career at Wesleyan in June 1999 as Assistant Regional Director, working with volunteer management, club programming, and fund raising. In Summer 2000, he was promoted to Associate Director in the newly formed Office of Alumni Programs, where he served as staff liaison for the Alumni of Color Network and the Wesleyan clubs of New York, Houston, and Chicago. In Spring 2001, Dwayne joined the major gifts team as Associate Director, working closely with the Los Angeles Campaign Committee and the Wesleyan Parents Fund.
Dwayne was instrumental in the success of the Janina Montero Scholarship,
the Dwight L. Greene
Symposium, various fundraising efforts, and establishing ties with members of Wesleyan’s Alumni of Color community. All who had the pleasure of meeting and working with Dwayne will certainly miss his positive attitude, outgoing personality, and wonderful sense of humor. But though he may be moving away from Middletown, Dwayne will continue to volunteer for Wesleyan, serving as vice-chair of the Black Alumni Council and initiating alumni events in the Houston area.
José Filpo ’91, Chair of the Latino Alumni Council: “Dwayne attacked every project with energy and enthusiasm, breathed fresh new ideas into our meetings and plans, and helped bring our three councils together for the benefit of all. He helped create the annual Three Kings Day event, recruited new volunteer leaders for the councils, and most notably, helped lead the campaign for the Janina Montero Scholarship, which is nearing its $500,000 goal. We owe him a debt of gratitude for his hard work on behalf of our councils and the University.”
Saeyun Lee ’93, Chair of the Asian Pacific American Alumni Council: “As a student, Dwayne traveled in multiple social circles with ease, and he brought the importance of nurturing friendships between alumni and administrators of color, in addition to strong professional relationships, to his position at Wesleyan. His commitment to unity and collaboration between the three alumni of color councils was outstanding. Thank you, Dwayne, for your contribution to my life and to the work of the APAAC and the AOC Network!”
We wish Dwayne and Gabrielle all the best. Enjoy the next stages of your life and your new pursuits in the great state of Texas!
