The 13th Annual Dwight Greene Symposium
A Conversation with K. C. Jones P'09
Interviewed by Paul Mason '77
Saturday November 5, 2005 8 p.m.
K. C. Jones is known as one of the best defensive guards in the history of basketball. He was a defensive point guard with the University of San Francisco when they won back-to-back NCAA championships in 1955 and 1956. After graduation, he was named to the collegiate Olympic basketball team which won the gold medal in 1956. In 1958, Jones joined the Boston Celtics as de-fensive point guard and helped the team win eight world championships in nine years. His number "25" was retired and hangs in the Boston Celtics' arena. As head coach of the Celtics in the '80s, he led his team to two more NBA world championships in 1984 and 1986. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame as a player in 1989.
Jones never coached any team (pro or collegiate, men's or women's) with less than a .500 record. He holds one of the top NBA coaching records (wins to losses for games coached), and as a player, assistant coach, or head coach, he earned 12 NBA championships. He currently serves as special assistant to the athletic director at the University of Hartford and assists with the Hawks' men's basketball radio broadcasts. His son Kent Christopher is a freshman at Wesleyan.
Paul Mason '77 is an Emmy Award-winning producer and the senior vice president of ABC News.
Black Alumni Council (BAC) award recipient Kaneza Schaal '06 will present her research project prior to the symposium.
The symposium, held in honor of Dwight L. Greene '70, began in 1993 as a memorial to his life and work as a professor of law, mentor, and friend to many.
An informal reception follows the symposium. Visit http://www.wesleyan.edu/hcfw/2005/ for more details.
