Introductions

We would like to welcome Faraneh Carnegie ’05 to the Office of Alumni and Parent Relations. Faraneh recently replaced Ciaran Escoffery ’00 as the assistant director of regional programming and networks and as the staff liaison for Alumni of Color Networks.

We trust that you are enjoying the summer as we bring you good news: Miguel Guadalupe ’98 and Gabriel Aviles ’00 have accepted the invitation to serve as national cochairs for the Wesleyan Latino Alumni Council (LAC). Miguel graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in government and Latin American studies, and has worked at Merrill Lynch & Company, Inc. as an associate accounting executive of international sales since his graduation. He recently accepted the responsibility of regional repre-sentative to Latin America, traveling frequently to Argentina. Gabriel graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in Spanish language and literature, and he served as an as-sistant dean of admission at Wesleyan since his graduation. He recently accepted a position teaching sixth and seventh grade Spanish at the George Jackson Academy, a progressive independent school on the Lower East Side of New York City. Miguel and Gabriel will serve as cochairs for two years and will work with Faraneh Carnegie ’05, staff liaison to the Alumni of Color Network, to promote national activity and engagement among the LAC community through mass communications, volunteer re-cruiting opportunities, and social events.

Approximately 860 Wesleyan alumni throughout the country and the world identify themselves as Latino or Hispanic. The largest numbers of these alumni re-side in the following states:

  • California—80
  • Connecticut—75
  • Massachusetts—47
  • New York—293
  • New Jersey—40
  • Washington, DC area—44

As the number of Wesleyan Latino alumni grows, we encourage as many alumni as possible to become active in their respective area, particularly if there is an active regional club. As the number of enrolling Latino students continues to grow, we hope alumni will help prospective students learn more about our alma mater through personal interviews, college fairs, evening receptions, and summer send-offs. We thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to seeing you on campus for events such as Volunteer Weekend, Homecoming/Family Weekend and, of course, Reunion & Commencement.

Go Wes!
