About the Alumni Association
Purpose
The Wesleyan University Alumni Association is dedicated to advancing the University's commitment to intellectual, moral and social development. The Association seeks to promote the lifelong relationship forged among all members of the Wesleyan community. Through association with one another and the University, Wesleyan alumni can assist in the preservation of a challenging educational setting for succeeding generations of students.
Membership
All graduates of Wesleyan University, all non-graduates who have attended the University for a least one semester and whose classes have graduated, all persons who have received honorary degrees from the University, all persons who are or have been trustees of Wesleyan University, and all persons who may, from time to time, be entitled to vote for alumni-elected trustees shall be members of the Alumni Association. There are over 30,000 alumni in all 50 states and many nations around the world.
Governance
The Association is governed by an Executive Committee including the officers (chair, vice chair, secretary, and treasurer); the chair of each active Wesleyan club, council, and committee of the Association (or their designees); up to two representatives of the Wesleyan University Parents Council; and up to seven at large representatives from among members of the Association. Current members can be viewed here.
The Executive Committee sets priorities for the Alumni Association and works with University staff to facilitate and promote regional club events and activities (including president's receptions, faculty talks, cultural events, and GOLD — Graduates of the Last Decade — events), alumni of color activities, on-campus seminars, fundraising, career advising and networking, and recruitment of prospective students.
Subcommittees of the Executive Committee include The Wesleyan Fund National Committee, which provides direction and support for The Wesleyan Fund; the WESeminar Committee, which provides guidance and recommendations to the Alumni Relations staff who implement WESeminars; and the Nominating Committee, which oversees selection of trustees candidates for annual election.
The Executive Committee meets on campus twice a year. An annual meeting for all alumni is held annually during Reunion & Commencement Weekend.
