Benefits and Resources for B.A. Alumni

WesNet

WesNet is your link to campus and to the entire alumni community. It includes 1) an alumni database (a powerful search engine for finding friends and classmates as well as personal or professional networking, and the place where you can update your contact information and personal profile), 2) your Wesleyan e-mail account (see below), 3) listservs to which you can subscribe, and 4) extensive volunteer tools. It also includes links to Wesleyan resources such as Regional Clubs, on-campus events, the faculty and staff directory, and much more. Log in at http://www.wesleyan.edu/wesnet.

E-Mail

Each graduate of Wesleyan is granted a permanent e-mail account ending in "@wesleyan.edu" which can be accessed through WesNet (see above). There are two e-mail account conventions. If you had an e-mail account while you were a student at Wesleyan, or if you have requested an e-mail account, your username is most likely your first initial followed by your last name. For example, John Wesley '02 would be jwesley@wesleyan.edu. (This varies somewhat so that all usernames are unique.) If you have never had an e-mail account, your e-mail address was created with the first letter of your first name, your last name, and the last two numbers of your class year. For example, John Doe '75 would be jdoe75@alumni.wesleyan.edu. Your username would be jdoe75. Your initial e-mail password has been set to your six-digit Wesleyan ID number. If you need help determining the username and e-mail address for your e-mail account, or if you do not recall your most recent password and wish to have it reset, contact wesnet@wesleyan.edu or 860/685-2453.

Other Information Technology Services

All alumni have access to computer repair services at nominal rates by the Computer Store and Service Center (Exley Science Center Room 116, Monday through Friday 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.). More information is available at http://www.wesleyan.edu/its/store. Alumni may also obtain access to log on to all on-campus computers and make use of the public computer labs on campus. Visit http://www.wesleyan.edu/its/ to learn more about the facilities and services offered by Wesleyan’s Information Technology Services.

Wesleyan Magazine

The alumni magazine, Wesleyan, is published quarterly and mailed free of charge to alumni and parents. It is also available online at www.wesleyan.edu/magazine. Please note: Due to the growing size of the alumni body, alumni who have not donated any amount of money to any area of the University in more than 10 years are temporarily removed from the mailing list. We have found that many people in this category are not interested in receiving the magazine, so it is an efficient way to reduce our printing and postage costs. If you ever fall into this category, but you wish to remain on the mailing list permanently, please contact the Office of Alumni and Parent Relations at 860/685-3836 or alumni@wesleyan.edu.

Career Counseling

The Career Resource Center, located at 25 Lawn Avenue (Butterfield A), offers career counseling to all B.A. alumni. Connect with a CRC counselor regarding a job search, graduate/professional school admissions, and career changes. More information is available at http://www.wesleyan.edu/crc/alumni/ or by calling the CRC at 860/685-2180.

Facilities Rentals

Wesleyan University has a variety of spaces available for rental by individuals and groups. Alumni receive a 20 percent discount on all facilities rentals. Popular spaces include The Russell House (350 High Street, capacity is 100 for receptions or 60 for sit-down dinners, backyard is also available for a tent setup for larger events), Memorial Chapel and the Zelnick Pavilion (multi-denominational/accessible to individuals with disabilities/air-conditioned, capacity is more than 500 for the Chapel and close to 100 for the Zelnick Pavilion), classrooms (capacity ranges from under 10 to 300+), and Woodhead Lounge (capacity varies by setup). For more information, visit http://www.wesleyan.edu/facilities/ or call the University Coordinator's Office at 860/685-2280.

Libraries

Alumni may apply for a library card at no charge. Cards may be obtained at the Olin Library Circulation Office (Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m., and during the academic year on Saturday, 10 a.m.–noon and 1–5 p.m.). Library cards expire annually with renewals available upon request. Initial applications must be made in person, while renewals may be made over the phone or online. Library privileges allow alumni to borrow materials from any of Wesleyan’s library collections but do not include access to CTW or Interlibrary loans or to the online databases to which Wesleyan subscribes (i.e., Lexis-Nexis or PubMed). Visit http://www.wesleyan.edu/libr/ or call 860/685-2660 for more information and up-to-date library hours.

Athletic Facilities

Alumni may apply for a membership to use the Freeman Athletic Center (including the pool, field house, squash courts and fitness center) and all other athletic facilities on campus. Membership fees for alumni are: Individual Membership, $290 (graduated within the past 5 years) or $455 (graduated more than 5 years ago); Family Membership, $375 (graduated within the past 5 years) or $540 (graduated more than 5 years ago). Annual memberships are renewable each August 30. To apply for a membership, call 860/685-2893 or visit the Freeman Athletic Center at 161 Cross Street. Facility hours are available in the main lobby of the center or online at http://www.wesleyan.edu/athletics/facilities/facguidehours.html.

Wesleyan Athletics

A copy of your diploma may be obtained by calling Gladys Rodriguez in the Registrar's Office at 860/685-2747 or sending an e-mail to grodriguez@wesleyan.edu.

Wesleyan Logo Items

Broad Street Books, the Wesleyan Bookstore and Café (formerly called Atticus) is located at 45 Broad Street. The bookstore sells a wide variety of Wesleyan clothing and gifts in the store and online at http://wes.bkstr.com. The Red and Black Café is located inside the bookstore; the café Web site is www.redblackcafe.com. Wesleyan car/window decals are available free of charge from the Office of Alumni and Parent Relations. Email alumni@wesleyan.edu to request a decal anytime.

Campus Events and the Center for the Arts (CFA)

For alumni who can get to campus regularly or for periodic visits, there are many cultural and educational events of which to take advantage. Visit http://events.wesleyan.edu/ for a complete calendar of on-campus events, or visit http://www.wesleyan.edu/CFA/ for information about the Center for the Arts.

Regional Clubs and Councils, Travel Programs, WESeminars, and More

The Wesleyan Office of Alumni and Parent Relations works with a strong network of volunteers to organize a myriad of events around the country and the world, and to foster networking and connections among our constituents. Club events range from Faculty Conversations featuring current Wesleyan professors to social gatherings to career networking events. Travel Programs and WESeminars also offer opportunities for alumni to make connections in a more academic setting. For more information about these and other resources available through the Office of Alumni and Parent Relations, visit www.wesleyan.edu/alumni.

Graduate Liberal Studies Program (GLSP)

Founded in 1953, the GLSP began as the Graduate Summer School for Teachers and was the first program in the country to offer the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (M.A.L.S.) degree. Today, it offers approximately 90 courses per year during three terms (summer, fall, and spring). Students generally study part-time (one or two classes per semester) and obtain their M.A.L.S. in two to four years. Others simply take classes periodically for general enrichment and personal development. B.A. alumni of Wesleyan do not get a discount on GLSP courses, but scholarships are available to those who apply. For more information, log on to http://www.wesleyan.edu/glsp/.

The Inn at Middletown

The Inn at Middletown is located just a few blocks from campus at 70 Main Street. For more information or to make a reservation, visit http://www.innatmiddletown.com or call 860/854-6300.
