Bequest of over $850,000 to Endow Scholarship Fund in Memory of 1897 Alumna Agnes G. Gilman
The Agnes G. Gilman Endowed Scholarship Fund, established with a bequest from her daughter, Gertrude Gilman Smith, will benefit students studying ancient and modern languages. Agnes Gilman, née McGlynn, was one of a small number of female students who attended the University between 1872 and 1912. Adding to her academic endeavors, she was an active member of Alpha Kappa Upsilon, a women’s society whose purpose was “to furnish literary and social entertainment to its members and to promote the best interests of the college community.” Agnes later married her Wesleyan classmate, Albert Gilman.
