Stephanie Ivy-Beasley ’92 has helped create two generous scholarships in tribute to former administrator and teacher, Janina Montero, and in memory of her college roommate, Simone Wennik ’92. These gifts are in addition to her annual gift to the Wesleyan Fund.
During her time as a student here, Stephanie was an active member of the community. As a senior interviewer; recipient of the W.E.B. Dubois Prize and the Vanguard Prize; chair of UJAMAA; member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated; Phi Beta Kappa; and the Mystical Seven, Stephanie showed substantial leadership qualities at Wesleyan. Since graduation, she has continued her relationship with the university as an active volunteer at a Wesleyan Fund Phonathon, as a member of the Reunion Committee, the Alumni Association Nominating Committee, and most recently, as an Alumni-Elected Trustee.
Stephanie describes all of these activities as ways to make friends from very different walks of life, whom she might never have met otherwise. “Maybe it’s because of the size of the university, or the population at Wesleyan, but by taking part in the campus community and student groups, I was exposed to people from all different walks of life, and I made friends that I never would have had met otherwise. Wesleyan gave me limitless exposure to opportunities, and gave me a chance to explore interests that I never would have, otherwise,” explained Stephanie. “Wesleyan shaped my perspective on what I could do in life.”
Recently married, Stephanie lives in Los Angeles with her husband, Scott, and works for Goldman Sachs in their West-Coast offices.
Wesleyan thanks this true Wesleyan spirit for her continued engagement and leadership.
