The Great Journey Through Europe

June 15–25, 2009

Heidelburg CastleSteeped in history and legend for centuries, no river evokes the romance of Europe more than the Rhine. From its source high in the Swiss Alps to its intersection with the North Sea, the Rhine courses past castles, villages of half–timbered houses, terraced vineyards, soaring cathedrals, and the mythical Lorelei Rock, immortalized by the German Romantic poet Heinrich Heine.

Join us for a nine–night journey through the heart of the Alps along the Rhine River using a unique combination of rail and river travel. Explore the Swiss resorts of Zermatt and Lucerne, view the Matterhorn from the Gornergrat Bahn, cross the mountains of Switzerland aboard the Glacier Express, and ride a cog railway up Mount Pilatus for panoramic views of Lake Lucerne. Travel overland from Lucerne through the lush countryside and lake district of Switzerland to Basel, and cruise to Amsterdam, The Netherlands aboard the deluxe M.S. Amadeus Symphony with port calls at Strasbourg, France, Mannheim (Heidelberg), Rüdesheim, Koblenz, and Cologne, Germany.

Price: $3,195 plus airfare

A two–night pre–program in Amsterdam is available.
