MYSTERIES OF THE MEKONG: SAIGON TO ANGKOR WAT

March 7–18, 2010

Kampong ChamBegin this 12-day journey in Ho Chi Minh City, with guided visits to the History and War Remnants Museums, the former Presidential Palace and the Notre Dame Cathedral. You’ll have ample opportunities to appreciate the beautiful French colonial architecture in the city, and see the elaborate underground network of tunnels built by the Viet Cong.

The trip continues with a five-night cruise along the Mekong River aboard JAYAVARMAN, a newly launched replica of a French Colonial style small ship that will provide an intimate encounter with the people and cultures of the Mekong Delta. While on the river, there will be excursions by sampan (boat) from Cai Be to the colorful markets of the Thoi Son Islands. Other stops include Vinh Long, Tan chau, Chau doc, and Phnom Penh.

After disembarking the ship, spend two days in Siem Reap and the UNESCO World Heritage site of Angkor Wat, where you’ll see the best of Khmer architecture and enjoy an elephant ride. Other excursions include a visit to the National Museum, the ancient royal city of Angkor Thom, and the temples of Ta Prohm.

Price: $3,195 plus airfare

A Hanoi pre-program and Bangkok post-program are available.
