| Vegan “convert” responds by Gabriel Popkin In response to Cory Miller’s November 9th Wespeak entitled “Meat-eaters can’t be Converted,” I would just like to say that I am a former meat-eater who was “converted” to vegetarianism, and then more recently to veganism. In both cases I decided to change my behavior after discussions and exposure to factual materials forced me to confront the consequences of my actions until I could no longer ignore my conscience. Miller states that, “meat-eaters will continue to be meat-eaters until humans realize the effects meat-eating has on our environment.” Aren’t nonhuman animals a part of our environment? I feel that it is my responsibility to engage people in the same discussions and ideas that led to the opening of my mind to the larger world around me. Popkin is a member class of 2003
