| CJ missed the bus from
ignorance to intellect By Dawn Papacena Oh CJ, I think that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I also think that when you speak, you prove to the whole Wesleyan community that Admissions needs to be a little bit more picky about who they choose to accept into this institution. Since I work at the office of admissions, hopefully, I will help in rectifying this situation for future classes here. I feel that Wesleyan is a place for growth but apparently you missed that bus from boyhood ignorance to adult intellect. I am going to address some points that you bring up in your article, and hopefully shed some light on some of the information that you provide. Firstly, you state that the gay community “makes every attempt to let everyone aware of their sexual preference,” and then you ask why. Well, that is an easy statement to make being a heterosexual male, as it is easy for me to say since I am a heterosexual female, even though I know that I would never say something that lacks so much intelligence as that statement. I really don’t think that you understand what minorities on this campus go through since you are a white, heterosexual male, and basically you represent the oppressor in every situation. So you shouldn’t be insecure about minorities on campus that voice their opinions, because frankly, you just don’t understand what we go through. Secondly, you state that nobody cares about others’ sexual preferences, that what the Queerleaders did at the halftime show was offensive, and ruined the game for you and your family. Well personally, I feel that you are offensive because every other word in your article was either a curse, or “idiot,” or you just being irate. Also, I think that your parents and your sister will get over that whole “offensive” thing right quick. You have been going to this school for four years, and if they don’t know the social climate of this school by now, then that is your fault for not explaining it to them. Now, the whole sexual preference thing that you mention again, which slightly hints at homophobia if you ask me, can easily be rebutted with the fact that you are a HETEROSEXUAL MALE, and it is easy for you to pass judgment. I really honestly believe that you are totally missing the idea that this school functions on the idea that being comfortable is being complacent. Now, you have known this for four years, and this is making you mad now? I think that many of the arguments and claims in your wespeak would have been tolerated by me if they weren’t so blatantly lacking intelligence and were backed up by some kind of intelligent warrant. You seem to forget that people like you hold the power in society, as annoying as that may sound, so when you get mad because you can’t run through a Queer students’ event without it being deemed as hateful, just sit back and realize that you doing that probably is hateful. Now I won’t even get into the fact that our school is DIVISION III. We are an academically fast-paced school, and I personally apologize for the fact that we value education and tolerance (I think that you missed that class), over sports. I can’t possibly take you seriously when you state that the Queerleaders ruined homecoming when the score from the football game (31- 7, Williams) shows us that we were ruined from the very beginning.
