| Social Committee wants input |
There comes a time when announcements must be made. This is one such moment. We are the Social Committee. Together we are 9 members with the shared responsibility of putting on two large campus-wide events, Winter Carnival and Spring Fling as well as organizing events such as Battle of the Bands. We are also faced with the unfortunate task of taking the blame for all things related to these events, including bad weather and the acoustics in MoCon. However, we remain overwhelmingly optimistic that this year will showcase some of the most phenomenal musical acts you will ever see during your time here at this institution. While it may seem that the Social Committee is an exclusive group making all the executive decisions for your Wesleyan fun, please know that this is not the case. We welcome, nay encourage, suggestions for acts and any connections people may have with the music industry. Come on ... we all have strings to pull as part of the puppet act. So go ahead and pull; then get in touch with the Committee via email. This year, the committee has its very own email address: socialcom@ wesleyan.edu - make your thoughts heard and, if they are helpful and reasonable, one of us will get back to you. In this way, we hope that the student body will feel that they have more say in the planning of Winter Carnival, Battle of the Bands and Spring Fling. Remember that we are trying to select music that will appeal to a wide audience while working with a sizeable, but not astronomical, budget. There is absolutely no way we can unfreeze Jimi Hendrix out of his cyberchamber. Sorry. If you are interested in having three or four smaller shows than two large ones, then let us know. If you think Spring Fling could be turned into a freakshow carnival with games and booths, then, by all means people, be proactive and get in contact with the committee. As a committee, we are really fucking enthusiastic and want the rest of you to jump on the bus. Use us and abuse us. Go ahead ... we dare you. Cordova, Grasow, Sakash and Schwartz are members of the class of 2000. Neary is a member of the class of 2001. Benson and De Vries are members of the class of 2002. Prabhu and Rahman are members of the class of 2003. |
