The Ampersand
Takes a Stand
The Argus recently ran an article in which Wesleyan University was named the seventh most politically active campus in the United States. We at the Ampersand took great pride in reading this fact, although we must also admit to have also felt a certain amount of guilt. You see, we don’t really participate in anything that might be termed a "good cause." Our activism up to this point has consisted of little more than telling Weshop to please buy more Ben and Jerry’s Mint Chocolate Cookie ice cream and complaining about how there are no napkins at Mocon tables anymore. So we started thinking ab s out how active some other people on this campus are, and to be honest we’re fed up with our own apathy. Think about it, if we had just done our part we probably could have cracked the top five. Or top six maybe. So today we make our stand. And you, our readers who are most likely not involved in any causes either, although we don’t know that for sure, should too. Alas, there are a seemingly infinite number of causes here at Wesleyan,
and sorting them out can be tricky. So we’ve done our best to compile a
comprehensive list of the most visible and well-known activist groups on
campus so that you decide which one you want to devote you activist energies
to. And if you don’t see anything here that piques your interest, feel
free to start your own club. Just make sure you don’t ask us to join it,
because, to be honest, we wouldn’t want to be associated with anything
you could think up.
