To the Editor:

I visited your campus on Saturday, 10/14 with my niece, a prospective Wesleyan student. I want you to know that because of the chalkings on the tour route, my niece will not apply to Wesleyan.

The chalkings were vulgar and offensive. As visitors to your campus, we were struck by the spirit of the messages - filled with hate and intolerance. It is ironic that a student group, formed most likely with the intent of fighting hate against gays, is seething with hate against heterosexuals. Rather than being a place where diversity is celebrated, Wesleyan appears to be a place where obnoxious and immature students terrorize the campus.

If the intent was to dissuade prospective students from applying to Wesleyan, then the messages were successful. My niece has no intention of joining a campus that appears so hateful and divided.
