By Mary Robertson Do not despair young filmmakers, just watch as Mark Borchardt makes his movie dream come true in "American Movie." If Mark can do it, you can too. "American Movie" is, according to the New York Times "heartfelt and hilarious." This documentary simultaneously makes fun of mullet wearing Wisconsiners and their ineptitude, while at the same time appreciates their sincerity and goodness. Like many aspiring filmmakers, Mark has been wanting to make his movie for a long time. "American Movie begins as Mark decides to put all of his attention towards this goal. What follows are Mark’s trials and tribulations, a cast of zany characters,
cheap stunts, cemetery work, and an ultimately thorough and unforgiving
portrait of several characters. "American Movie" is a small film whose
relatively large success is well deserved. It is dense, and leaves you
sad and contemplative on the inside and doubled over with laughter on the
"American Movie" is playing in the CFA cinema on Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 and 10 p.m. Come see "Seven" in the Science Center 150 on Friday night at 7:30 and 10 p.m. and the Bond Classic "Dr. No" in SC150 Saturday night at 7:30 and 10 p.m. |
