An unidentified male picked up a female student from outside a house in the area of Church and High Streets and carried her toward WeShop around 12:30 a.m. on Friday.

According to the Public Safety alert bulletin broadcast distributed Friday morning, the male appeared to be intoxicated. Five or six other males accompanied the first male and each of them was described as college-aged. Allegedly, the males verbally harassed the female student and threatened to sexually assault her.

In the vicinity of WeShop the female student was able to kick the man who was carrying her and run away. She then reported the incident to Public Safety.

The alert stated that the males are white, with muscular builds and short hair. The man who carried the female student was wearing a "bright-colored baseball cap (possibly red or orange), a striped sweater, and jeans. The other males were wearing jeans and button-down shirts."

The incident is under investigation and Public Safety has received several calls concerning suspects. A security alert is currently in effect.

"It is unfortunate that the night after classes started, such a serious situation occurred," said Director of Public Safety Maryann Wiggin.

The office of Public Safety has asked anyone with information pertaining to the incident to call campus extension 2345.
