In the wake of fall elections, the Wesleyan Student Assembly (WSA) is gearing up for a year of service to the student body through policy reform and revision.

Nine frosh and seven at-large representatives were recently selected for the WSA, which is composed of 37 student-elected members. Out of 15 frosh who ran for a position, nine were elected. All seven at-large representatives that ran were elected.

According to Bill Wilson ’99, president of the WSA, the at-large representatives were shoo-ins for the office.

The at-large representatives were elected out of a pool of 203 student votes cast. The representatives are Tumi Adebiyi ’01, Emma Freudenberger ’01, Adriana Jones ’01, Kent Lam ’01, Nomi Maeyama ’00, Mario Manna ’01, and Zach Whedon ’01.

The nine frosh representatives were elected out of a pool of 376 votes cast. The frosh representatives are Daniel Koplowitz ’02, Molly Aaronson-Gelb ’02, Mina Halpren ’02, Emmanuella Revolus ’02, Myron Weise ’02, Suzanne Appel ’02, Peter Kim ’02, Sebastian Kaplan-Sears ’02, and Karen Ben-Moshe ’02.

According to Wilson, the high volume of frosh candidates and votes accounts for new students who are eager to get involved.

"I like being involved in organizing activities and the WSA was a way of getting involved," Aaronson-Gelb said.

Adebiyi, who is an at-large representative, said she ran because she was interested in working with the Education Policy Committee to help improve course scheduling.

"There’s a lot of fresh blood. We’re hungry," Wilson said. "We’re not going to be bogged down by bureaucracy and precedent. We’re going to speak for the students, because we realize that’s why we’re here."
