Letter to the Editor:
Wadsworth Estate Committees Thank the Classes of 2002 and 2001

Dear Editor,

The Wadsworth Mansion Building Committee and the Stewardship Committee of Long Hill Estate, Middletown’s newest public park, wish to express their thanks to the Wesleyan University Class of 2002 for its donation of time, energy and effort on the park’s behalf. The hard work of the class during the Labor Day weekend resulted in a number of new maple trees planted along the entrance drive, the mulching of many existent trees along the drive, a new bridge across a seasonal swamp on the Perimeter Trail and new steps refining the switch backs on the trail below the summit of Long Hill. Incidentally, the Perimeter Trail exists thanks to the Class of 2001.

The contribution of both classes through their orientation activities to this park is of immeasurable value to the City, helping to make the Long Hill Estate the special public park it is. It is our hope that the Wesleyan student body will join the rest of the community and feel free to enjoy this unique Olmsted-designed land now, and, in due time, its mansion. The latter is currently undergoing rehabilitation and due to open in the summer of 1999.

With great appreciation,

Joyce Kirkpatrick
Wadsworth Mansion Building Committee, Chair
