Football wide receiver Matt Perceval ’00 turned in one of the greatest offensive performances in Wesleyan history Saturday.

Shattering three NESCAC records and an NCAA Division III record, Perceval caught seven touchdown passes for 231 yards. His seven touchdowns broke the previous NESCAC record of four and the Division III record of five.

Perceval has been named the NESCAC and ECAC offensive player of the week. He will also receive the Golden Helmet, which is given to the top performer in New England for Division II and III.

"Perceval is simply the man," said running back Rahsaan Wareham ’01. "Why they didn’t double team him earlier I don’t know. He just ate their corners up."

According to Wareham, Perceval’s six first half touchdowns broke the NCAA all-division record for most touchdowns in a half, and his seven overall touchdowns put him in the NCAA record books for most touchdown receptions in a game. The NCAA was unavailable for confirmation.

"Whether or not you double or triple teamed [Perceval], it wouldn’t matter, the Fay/Perceval combo was unstoppable," said tight end Hank Wasserman ’99 "We just have too many weapons."

After Saturday’s performance, Perceval is poised to add several more records by the end of the season. He needs just two more touchdowns to break the NESCAC record for receiving touchdowns in a season and four more to break the team record set in 1968. Also, he is almost halfway towards the single season point record of 96 and should surpass the record for receiving yards in a season as well.
