Wesleyan Adult Fitness is excited to announce our Challenge Event Series which will replace the Lunch and Learn series for spring 2012. The challenge events include four one-day events each occurring between 12:00 and 1:00 pm at the Freeman Athletic Center. A detailed description of each event is provided below along with all important notations.

  • A goal of the Zumbathon is to raise money for the Amazing Grace Food Pantry
  • Registration to participate in any of the four challenge events is required

Ashtanga Yoga is an ancient system of yoga as taught by K. Pattabhi Jois of India. It is based upon a dynamic linking of rhythmic breathing and flowing movement known as vinyasa. When practiced properly immense heat is created deep within our core that acts to purify the body. The focused breathing technique of "ujjayi" calms the mind and soothes the nervous system leaving one with a deep meditative calm. You will learn a complete introduction to the foundations of Ashtanga yoga followed by a full flowing first series session as well as a soothing deep relaxation.

Come and participate, burn calories and donate food to the Amazing Grace Food Pantry (canned goods and non-perishabel food items). If you have never tried Zumba this is an opportunity to give it a shot and donate to a good cause. If you are totally new to the leatest fitness craze called Zumba, think Latin music meets dance themes that create a dynamic and exciting yet easy to follow class. The time flies by as the calories burn off, making it a fun and effective workout. If you are interested in participating in this event, please register in advance and on the day of the event please bring your food donations.

Tour de France Challenge Cup

This challenging event combines both biking and walking, all taking place during the allocated one hour time frame. The maximum number of participants is 24. Twelve will begin indoors for 25 minutes on our spinning bikes, led by an instructor. Twelve will begin on our outdoor track overseen by an instructor with the goal of walking the longest distance possible within twenty-five minutes. After 25 minutes, the groups will switch to the other event.
