Cards Outhit Homestanding MIT, 13-11, but Come Up Short on Scoreboard, 14-11
Eight of Wesleyan's nine starters picked up at least one hit in a see-saw battle at M.I.T. Wed., April 11, but in the end, the Beavers scored four runs in the bottom of the 8th to break a 10-10 tie and go on for the 14- 11 decision. Garrett Lamborn '09 (photo courtesy of Wagner Photography, Ft. Myers, Fla.) was one of the Cardinals to post two hits in the contest and the only one for extra bases, that a double to lead off the 9th inning. His pinch-runner Rob Coughlin '07 eventually scored as Wesleyan got runners to first and second with one out, down 14-11, but got no closer as M.I.T. logged the final two outs. The Cards led early 5-0 only to be tied in the bottom of the 3rd. After pushing out to a 9-5 advantage, the Cards found themselves trailing 10-9 heading into the 7th. Lamborn then scored the tying run after walking, advancing to second on a wild pitch and finding the plate after an M.I.T. error. Wesleyan begins a three-game NESCAC West series at home with Hamilton Fri., April 13.
