Cards Unleash 24-Hit Attach at LaSierra for a 17-3 Victory as Drew Dominguez '09 Goes 5-for-5
Posting their second victory in California, the Cardinals hit a clean .522 as a team with 24 hits in 46 at-bats en route to a 17-3 win at LaSierra Wed., March 12. Breaking the game open with a 12-run fifth inning, Wesleyan sent 16 to the plate during the frame. Three Cardinals went 2-for-2 during the inning - Drew Dominguez '09 (#21, photo insert lower left courtesy of Daniel Harris, d3sports.com), Daniel Poniatowski '08 and Brice Kelly '10. Dominguez closed out the game with a 5-for-5 performance while scoring three runs and driving in three. Poniatowski went 4-for-4 with three runs and a pair of RBI. Kelly was 3-for-5 including a two-run triple in the fifth. Alex Early '09 also had a perfect game, going 3-for-3 while crossing the plate three times and driving home three teammates. On the mound, starter Jon Sargent '09 was having his way with the LaSierra batters, allowing just two hits and no runs over his six inning of work. He struck out six and walked just one. The four pitchers who combined to throw the final three innings recorded six of the nine outs by strikeout including a three strikeout effort by Tim Truncellito '08 in the ninth to end the game. Wesleyan's next outing comes in the California Classic when the Cardinals visit Occidental for the double-header Fri., March 14.
