Drew Dominguez '09, Graham Douds '08, and more watermarks!

Drew Dominguez '09 (main photo) and Graham Douds '08 (photo insert upper right) combined for seven of Wesleyan's 17 hits Sun., March 16 in a game vs. Franklin & Marshall during the California Classic at Occidental. Despite another splendid day at the plate, the Cards dropped a 16-15 decision as a rally in the 9th inning came up one run shy of tying the contest. Wesleyan entered the final inning facing a 16-9 deficit and scored six times with Douds delivering a key two-out, two-run double to make it a one-run game. But his pinch-runner was stranded at second when Louis Gabel '08 sent a ball deep to left that was tracked down for the final out. Dominguez had a virtually perfect game for the Cardinals, reaching base all six times he came to bat with two singles, two doubles and two walks. He scored four times and drove in a pair. Douds was 3-for-6 with four RBI. With its 17 hits, Wesleyan improved its team batting average to 371. Wesleyan and F&M did battle again Tues., March 18 in a game in Claremont, Calif. This time the Diplomats moved out to an 11-0 lead after four innings and didn't let the Cardinals get back into it, capturing an 11-4 conquest. Douds had two more hits as he paces the squad with a .514 average while Garrett Lamborn '09 had three to boost his average to .429. The team was back in action Thurs., March 20 when the team visited Cal Lutheran. There Wesleyan battled back to tie twice on solo home runs by Adam Gomez '10 in the 5th inning and Chris Simpson '08 in the 9th, but Cal Lutheran won the game in the bottom of the 9th, 3-2. Kit Tholen '08 logged a complete game, allowing nine hits and three runs with six strikeouts. The squad has a pair of games Fri., March 21, taking on Pomona-Pitzer in the morning and LaVerne in the evening. (both photos courtesy of Daniel Harris, d3sports.com)
