The Wes Fuhrman '05 Trails at Long Lane Farm is the home
course of Wesleyan's
men's and women's cross country teams. The newly designed course
opened in 2004 and was named for Wes Fuhrman '05 in 2006. He was
an All-American in both cross country and indoor track during his
athletic career at Wesleyan. Wesleyan has a true cross-country course that runs through
fields, wooded trails and even a small creek. The course has long
gradual hills with one major hill that the women run once (over 5k) and
the men run twice (over 8k). The women's course begins on an upper
field where the runners complete a loop of the field before heading in
the woods, proceeding across a creek towards a back field loop.
After completing the back field loop, the runners return to the woods
before finishing a final loop on the upper field. The men's course
runs the same loop as the women and then heads into the woods for a
second loop, finishing on the upper field. The first varsity event
on the Long Lane Farm course was the Little Three championships on
October 23, 2004. It also served as host for the 2005 NESCAC men's
and women's championships where the current men's course record of
25:09.5 was set by Neal Holtschulte of Williams. Carter Hamill of
Amherst holds the women's record of 17:53.3, set in 2004.
