Field Hockey Battles Eventual NCAA Champ Tufts Close but Falls in NESCACs, 2-0 - Three Cards Get Post-Season Honors Led by Tori Redding '13 & Ashley McLaren '13 - Team 2nd-Rank Academic Nationally

Drawing second-seeded Tufts in the first round of the NESCAC Tournament, the Cardinals played nearly 60 minutes of scoreless action against the eighth-ranked and once-beaten Jumbos, but a pair of goals in a span of 3:19 late in the contest turned the outcome in favor of the homestanders, 2-0, Sat, Oct. 27. Tufts moved on to face third-seeded Bowdoin in one semifinal while top-seeded and host Middlebury tackled fifth-seeded Amherst Sat., Nov. 3. Though Tufts lost to Bowdoin in the NESCAC semis, the Jumbos went on to run the table in the NCAAs and claim a national title. Playing her final game as a Cardinal, goalie Tori Redding '13 (#60, central photo) turned aside six Jumbos scoring bids as Tufts outshot Wesleyan, 11-6. The Cardinals did an outstanding job of limiting the opportunities generated by Tufts from its 10 penalty corners. Wesleyan had just one corner in the contest. Still, the goals came in the 60th and 63rd minute.
