In the first-ever meeting between Wesleyan and Salve Regina in field hockey, the Cardinals came away with a 2-1 victory, their opening win of the year. After a scoreless first half, Alexa David '10 (#14, main photo courtesy of Scott Porter) got Wesleyan on the board just 1:12 into the second period. Adrienne Shea '08 added her second goal of the year off a feed by Alex Bean '11 to pad the lead with under eight minutes to play. It proved to be the game-winner as Salve netted a goal with :05 left on a penalty stroke, spoiling the shutout bid of keeper Breen McDonald '10 (photo insert lower right), who notched one shutout last season in her rookie campaign. Wesleyan gets back to NESCAC action at home vs. Middlebury Sun., Sept. 23 in a game starting at noon.
