Hailey Sarage '09 (#1, photo) spotted Wesleyan a 1-0 first-half lead over Wellesley Thurs., Oct. 4, by converting a pass from outside the circle by Alex David '10 which was tipped inside the circle by Nat Galgano '11, into a goal at 3:02. It was her fourth goal of the season. It nearly held up as the game-winner but Wellesley rallied for the tying goal with 3:33 to play, getting one past Breen McDonald '10 who finished the game with seven saves including a stop on a penalty stroke (photo insert upper left, courtesy of Scott Porter) in the opening period. After David saved the day with a key defensive save in the opening minute of overtime, Nickels made the Cardinals a winner 4:49 into the extra frame with a sharp-angled sweep shot from the right side which hit off a defender's stick high into the air and into the visitor's net. Of the 18 meetings between Wesleyan and Wellesley, 10 have been decided in overtime. Wesleyan completes its three-game week by hosting Colby Sat., Oct. 6.
