Claire O'Brien '12 (#5, photo) set up Hailey Sarage '09 for a first-half goal, then scored the first goal of her career for the game-winner just 3:11 into the second half as Wesleyan got back to the winning side of the ledger with a 2-1 victory at Eastern Conn. Thurs., Oct. 9. Sarage redirected an O'Brien drive into the circle 12 minutes into the contest for the opening tally and O'Brien did the same with a feed from Lila Creighton '11. In improving its all-time record vs, Eastern Conn to 5-0, Wesleyan enjoyed an 18-7 advantage in shots. Keeper Breen McDonald '10 recorded six saves in holding the Warriors to a lone goal.
The team headed to Williams Sat., Oct. 11 for a NESCAC affair with the Ephs. Williams came through with a 3-0 victory to take the early lead in the Little Three race. The Cards completed Little Three play at home with Amherst during Homecoming/Family Weekend activities Sat., Oct. 18. Amherst prevailed, 3-0, scoring in the opening minute of play and adding a pair of second-half insurance goals. Stats for the game were virtually equal as was the general nature of the action but the Lord Jeffs cashed in on three of their better scoring chances.
In the team's most recent outing at Mount Holyoke Thurs., Oct. 23, the home squad broke a scoreless tie in the 50th minute off a corner situation with a goal on a rebound and added an insurance goal in the 64th minute, also off a corner, to spoil to first career start of goalie Danie Leahy '12, who finished with five saves in the 2-0 setback. Wesleyan heads to Bates Sat., Oct. 25 in need of a win for any chance at qualifying for the upcoming NESCAC tournament.
