Lila Creighton '11 Scores Twice vs. Conn. College but Season Ends in Overtime, 4-3
Recovering from deficits of 1-0 and 2-1 to tie the game at halftime, 2-2, Wesleyan took its first lead on Lila Creighton's '11 (#19, photo) second goal of the contest with just 6:01 remaining Fri., Oct. 31 vs. Conn. College in the regular-season finale. That goal gave Creighton the team leadership for points this season with four goals and one assist for nine points. But Conn. came back with the equalizer off a corner situation with no time left on the clock and went on to win 6:40 into overtime to end the Cardinals' chances of making a ninth consecutive appearance in the NESCAC tournament. A win against Conn. would have given Wesleyan a 67% chance on continuing its post-season run as the Cardinals would have tied with Colby and Bates for the final two spots in the eight-team field. A random draw among the three would have decided which teams would advance. The victory by Conn. propelled Colby and Bates into the tournament. Wesleyan ended the year with a 3-11 mark, 1-8 in NESCAC play.
